Jesus of Messine

This picture was a breviary made from a photographic reproduction of the Child Jesus of Ittenbach, called “of Messine” because it had been brought by Sr. Marie of the Trinity fro her Carmel in Paris, avenue de Messine.The Messine Jesus was one of the two pictures that St. Therese had in the infirmary.  The other was the Holy Face of Tours.  She was  also photographed with it and a picture of the Holy Face to fully illustrate her name: St. Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face.  On July 25, 1897, Thérèse wrote what the picture meant to her.  In raising heis reight hand to Heaven, Jesus seammed to be saying to her:  “You will come with me to paradise, it is I who tell you.”
