Saint Helen of Constantinople, also called St. Helena Augusta (c. 250 – c. 330) was mother of Constantine the Great, the first Christian Roman Emperor. She was also the Empress of the Roman Empire, until she was divorced by her husband, Emperor Constantius Chlorus. When Constantine, who was very close to his mother, came back into power, he reinstated Helena and gave her the title of “Augusta”. he even had coins minted with her image.She was responsible for tracking down the Cross that Jesus was crucified on, as well as bring relics back and building churches in the Holy Land, including the one at the site of Jesus Christ’s birth – the Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem and another at the site of his ascension – Church of Eleona on the Mount of Olives.

St. Helena was renowned for helping not only individuals, but entire communities through her works of charity. She often sought out to help the poor and destitute. She would visit churches and leave them with rich donations. St. Helena was a very devout servant of God.St. Helena is the patron saint of new discoveries and her feast day is celebrated on August 18.
