Description
Juana Fernández Solar took the name of Teresa of Jesus of the Andes when she became a Carmelite nun in 1919. She fell in love with God on her First Communion Day. She said that “God is pure joy”.
She contracted typhus or perhaps the Spanish flu and died at the age of only 19, after being in Carmelite monastery for 11 months. She was the first Chilean and the first Carmelite outside of Europe to be canonized. Her Feast Day is April 12th and her Discalced Carmelite feast is July 13th.
