This Angel honors St. David, patron of Wales. The name, “David,” is from the Hebrew meaning, “Beloved.” This Angel holds the bishop’s staff and has the crest and bishop’s mitre by his side.
St. David lived from 500 – 589 A. D. and was a Welsh bishop of Mynyw during the 6th century. His best-known miracle took place when he was preaching in the middle of a large crowd. The ground on which he stood is reputed to have risen up to form a small hill so everyone could see him. A white dove, which became his emblem, was seen settling on his shoulder.
In the Old Testament, the young David used his slingshot to kill the nightly giant Goliath, and went on to become the King of Israel. He was the author of the psalms.
St. David’s Feast Day is March 1.
